Through clear explanations and real-world applications, Ashley Esry, LCSW, LCAS, guides therapists to recognize how the autonomic nervous system influences emotions, behaviors, and the therapeutic relationship. Learn to identify client states of activation or shutdown and develop practical interventions to support regulation and connection—within both clients and yourself. This interactive training will help you: Define Polyvagal Theory and its relationship to psychotherapy Understand the three states of the nervous system (ventral, sympathetic, dorsal) Identify which clients and conditions benefit most from Polyvagal-informed care Learn simple, effective techniques for grounding, safety, and self-regulation By understanding how to work with the nervous system rather than against it, therapists can deepen connection, increase safety, and foster meaningful progress in treatment.
