Domestic Abuse: Best Practices for Identification, Treatment, and When to Refer 📅 Date: Wednesday, June 22nd 🕓 Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM EST 📍 Location: Virtual 🎤 Facilitator: Jaclyn Fortier, LCMHC Domestic abuse is one of the most under-identified concerns in outpatient mental health care — and clinicians are uniquely positioned to make a meaningful difference. This continuing education training equips mental health professionals with the clinical tools, trauma-informed frameworks, and ethical grounding needed to identify abuse, respond with care, and refer with confidence. Participants will explore the full spectrum of abuse — including emotional, psychological, financial, sexual, and coercive control dynamics — and learn how survivors present in clinical settings. Through evidence-based frameworks, real-world clinical application, and survivor-centered principles, this training prepares clinicians to navigate one of the most complex and critical areas of mental health practice. In this training, participants will: Identify abuse dynamics across psychological, emotional, physical, financial, and coercive domains Recognize behavioral and clinical indicators in survivors Differentiate healthy conflict from relational dysfunction and domestic abuse Assess risk factors and lethality warning signs Apply trauma-informed strategies with survivors Describe the impact of abuse on mental health, attachment, and nervous system functioning Evaluate barriers to leaving including psychological, cultural, financial, and safety-related factors Develop safety planning interventions Outline ethical and legal considerations including documentation, confidentiality, and mandated reporting Demonstrate culturally responsive, survivor-centered assessment and treatment approaches Analyze power and control dynamics using evidence-based frameworks Formulate referral strategies and multidisciplinary collaboration plans 🎓 1 Credit Hour | ACEP Number: 7925 💻 Online format
